Colour Chemistry and Technology is a second semester course and a three - credit degree course available to students offering Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Chemistry. Colour Chemistry and Technology is an emerging field of Industrial Chemistry. The first synthetic dye, Mauveine, was discovered by Perkin in 1856. Colour, pigment and polymer industry can rightly be described as a new idea. However, it remains a vibrant, challenging industry requiring a continuous stream of new products because of the quickly changing world in which we live. Polymer science is, driven by the desire to produce new materials for new applications. The success of materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene is so enormous that these materials are now manufactured on a huge scale and are indeed ubiquitous. There is still a massive drive to understand these materials and improve their properties in order to meet the material requirements. However, increasingly, polymers are being applied to a wide range of problems and in developing new materials.
